MEP to launch training programme for young migrants developed by EU-funded project 3rd August 2011
Dublin MEP Proinsias De Rossa will launch a suite of e-learning modules aimed at assisting young migrants to overcome barriers to finding a job, or employment that better reflects their skills and qualifications, at an event tomorrow (June 24).
The ICI was Ireland’s partner in the Pathways to Work project, funded by the Leonardo Da Vinci – Transfer of Innovation grant scheme which developed the modules. They cover Building Personal Confidence and Self-Awareness; Teamwork and Communications Skills; Knowing Your Employment Rights; Career Preparation and Job Search Skills and Interview Techniques and will be freely available on www.pathwaystowork.eu in English, Polish, Spanish and Italian. A brochure detailing the programme will also be launched at the event.
Research into the training needs of young migrants was conducted in five partner countries – Ireland, Italy, Northern Ireland, Spain and Poland and identified that young migrants in those countries encountered many of the same employment barriers including recognition of qualifications, communication and social skills and information about employment rights. Project partners, who are meeting in Dublin today are: Springboard Opportunities Ltd (Northern Ireland); Canice Consulting (Northern Ireland); Conform – Consorzio Formazione Manageriale (Italy); Fundacion Laboral del Metal (Spain) the University of Szczecin (Poland) and the ICI.
